The Sanctuary Maria Trens near Sterzing / Vipiteno in the Isarco Valley is one of the most important pilgrimage locations in South Tyrol. The Church was built in 1498 in late Gothic style.
Ah, to think of the thousands of pilgrims who prayed here over the centuries . . . I would gladly join them to visit this church (and I am not even Christian). Your picture of the gallery is especially intriguing since I have never seen such a thing. I think they are called votive tablets? Gnadenbild? Thanks for this Sunday lesson, Karl.

Yes, Dina, they are votive tablets.
DeleteVery beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThose church spires reach high into the deep blue sky. Perfect, Karl.
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful church!
ReplyDeleteI love the way this church looks against that gorgeous blue Tyrolean sky. Thanks for including the inside views, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a rather busy looking church.
