Mural on the facade of the Hotel/Restaurant "Walther von der Vogelweide"
in Klausen / Chiusa - Isarco Valley.
In the background the Säben Monastery.
Walther von der Vogelweide (c. 1170 – c. 1230) is the most celebrated lyric poet
of the Middle High German.
This post is linked to Monday Mural.
Nice the poet is honored with this image on the wall.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, Mural Monday; I keep forgetting about it. You chose a good one for today! Makes me a bit more motivated.
ReplyDeleteOh nice! I have not heard this name since the 1960s when we studied Walther von der Vogelweide in college (in America). And we had to read him in that same beautiful German script that is in your mural.
ReplyDeleteWhat we would call a pub sign in the UK, looks better though
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing this poet to my attention. My education lacked reference to him, but now I know. Seems he had a hard life, but managed to survive by entertaining nobility with his songs and poems. That is a fine looking mural. Love his poem, "I got my fief."
ReplyDeleteOh wonderful! You prompted me to listen to a few Minnesänge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhHsl2Rj_jo
ReplyDeleteThis one isn't bad either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PQaZTMx7Ig
I was going to say the mural looked to depict Medieval times... nice done.
ReplyDeleteTerrific shots, and the building looks old.
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with this poet. You live in an interesting area with its cultural crosscurrents.
ReplyDeleteThis one is really beautiful...
ReplyDeleteWall paintings must abound in your area. They add a definite charm and decorative flair to these wonderfully old buildings. Anything over 100 years old here is thought of as historic. Not even close compared to European history. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed about the artistic touch on many of the houses in your area.
