I cannot understand how people can just avert their eyes and walk past. I would take him to the nearest place to give him a warm meal at least and then see about arranging a place for him to stay.
This is a very powerful post, Karl. And for Christians, the words of Jesus come to mind: "So much as you have done it to the least of these, you have done it unto me."
How degrading for the person begging. Perhaps that is why people avert their eyes? I cannot supply an answer; our lives are filled with such disturbing signs which makes me unhappy about aspects of the human condition.
Very true, But, I have read that many "beggars" prey on the guilty feelings of others and make very good money at their begging. I don't know the situation you portray, and whether this is a truly unfortunate person or one with a clever ruse.
Sigh . . . quite a contrast.
