Der Schlägel hier erklang
An Zuber, Yhr und Fasse
Gar gute Jahre lang

An old mural in the Binder-Street in Bolzano / Bozen.

  1. I tried to translate, using online translator, but no luck. Whatever it means, they look like they are having a good time.

    1. I don't have a perfect translation too,
but the meaning is more or less this:
My name is Bindergasse (cooper street?)
      the mallet here resounded,
      on vats, kegs and barrels,
      many many years long.

  2. Thanks for the bit of translation above. I recognized something about a good year and I thought it might be a good year for wine since they seem to be dancing around a wine barrel.

    1. Yes Sharon, this is a wine barrel, and they are the manufacturers of barrels, of course...

  8. I'm not going to worry about what it means. The artwork and lettering are lovely.

  9. What fun--both the artwork and the language.
When I started German in 1959 in Chicago public school our textbooks were still in the old and beautiful script. I'm sorry they stopped using it.
