The date at the bottom of this mural is 1627. Perhaps that is the date this painting was first done, as this one looks too fresh and new to be that old. Very traditional and formal painting.
Beautifully executed and an interesting contrast to the more humble building it decorates. Did these religious wall paintings also have a political message? I'm thinking maybe a declaration of religious affiliation during a period when there was so much strife between Catholic and Protestant. Or am I reading too much into this? As always, thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
Nicely done, it doesn't seem to be in a church wall.
ReplyDeleteA traditional in your part of the country I believe and nice executed. The coat of arms shows the owner of the house or the protector ?
ReplyDeleteThe mural looks great next to the window with the shutters.
ReplyDeletePerfectly positioned and beautifully executed Karl, lovely find.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful one!

ReplyDeleteThis mural is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very fine mural by a very fine artist. You wouldn't see such a mural on a house here.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely, Karl!
