On July 17, 1988 ( exactly 25 years ago ) Pope John Paul II visited Maria Weissenstein-Pietralba, the most important and well known pilgrimage monastery of South Tyrol.
The Church "Unsere liebe Frau zu den drei Brunnen" in Trafoi was built in 1229 and restored between 1701 and 1702, close to three water sources who seem to enjoy healing properties.
This giant statue of a Roman legionary was created and installed 1904 in Ortisei / St. Ulrich / Urtijëi by the sculptor and artist Johann Baptist Moroder (20 February 1870 – 24 May 1932).
