Sundial in Gufidaun

Not every hour has weight
Not every day is sunny
If you're going constantly in splendor and light
Then you feel no more incantation.

The Egetmann Shrovetide Pageant 2011

Yesterday the Egetmannhansl remarried again. He does it every two years.

The Egetmann-Pageant in Tramin (since 1591)

The Egetmann Shrovetide Pageant is one of the most striking carnival parades anywhere in the Alps and is performed on Shrove in odd years.
The images you see here are from the last Edition 2009. Today's Pageant starts at 12:30 pm, so if you are in the area ... you are invited to participate.

The Egetmannhansl, the main character of the parade
( the dummy in a black jacket),  accompanied by his servant.

The ‘Schnappvieher’ or ‘Wudelen’, a sort of crocodiles without ears, but with horns.

Here are some pictures that I made at the last edition (2009)

The first flowers in the Frühlingstal

The "Frühlingstal / valle primavera" (spring valley) is located between the Montigglersee (Monticolo Lake) and the Kalterersee (Caldaro Lake). In this little valley grow the first flowers when the winter slowly ends.

The theme of toponymy in South Tyrol

The issue of toponymy is always very topical in South Tyrol.

As you may have noticed, all place names in South Tyrol are bilingual and in some cases trilingual.

The topic is hotly debated for years by politicians and consequently also turned into the carnival fun.

Weißes Rössl

The "Weißes Rössl" (little white horse) is a Restaurant in Kaltern/Caldaro, but it is not the only one.
Many villages in South Tyrol have a Restaurant named "Weißes Rössl".
