Zusslrennen in Prad
These men called "Zussl" are wearing cowbells weighing up to 20kg.
Last Thursday I went to Prad am Stilfserjoch / Prato allo Stelvio to watch the traditional Zusslrennen. It was the first time I saw this.
The Zusslrennen is a unique carnival parade which happens every year on Carnival Thursday.

I made also a short and simple video, so you can see some action and listen the sound of the cowbells.
You can also watch this video in HD on Vimeo.

I love these old traditions!
Thank you, Karl because you share - it's so exciting to see other country's traditions - nice post.
Wow, Karl, thanks for taking this video. I would not have believed it without actually seeing and hearing it. This procession is the strangest thing I've ever seen. I imagine it is an ancient "rite."
I loved video! It's so interesting. I think I'll read some more about this tradition.
Yes Dina, it is an ancient rite, the bells are used to expel the evil spirits and to wake up the nature.
Hmmm...I don't know what to say, Karl. What a bunch of ding-a-lings! Nah, just kidding. Looks like a lot of fun and it was more fun watching your video than watching the Emmy awards show last night! Your photos and your video are excellent - fun and super colors!
So, this is all about spring and get rid of the evil spirits that abound during the winter? Fascinating!
Wonderful ancient tradition. These young men must be in excellent condition to up to 44 pounds of bells and jog like that. Love your video. The sound is amazing.
This was wonderful, Karl. I enjoy encountering local parades and celebrations like this one. It reminds me of running into some Morris Dancers in the Cotswolds.
This was so interesting and great photos!
I've never seen anything like this! Wow!
