Ötzi

Ötzi, also called Ötzi the Iceman, the Similaun Man, the Man from Hauslabjoch, Homo tyrolensis, and the Hauslabjoch mummy is a well-preserved natural mummy of a man who lived around 3,300 BCE. The mummy was found in September 1991 in the Ötztal Alps, hence the nickname "Ötzi", near the Similaun mountain and Hauslabjoch on the border between Austria and Italy. He is Europe's oldest known natural human mummy, and has offered an unprecedented view of Chalcolithic Europeans. His body and belongings are displayed in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy.

Wow. That in itself would be reason enough for a visit to Bolzano!

From the looks of him, I'd say he could have used a vacation on the Mediterranean.

Wow - what a find! And I love that he has been "re-created" on this advertising pillar. He doesn't look so different from modern humans. Very neat!

Life was surely difficult back then. If only he had invested in Alpine real estate.

Wow, I didn't know about this find. Sometimes I like to wonder about how hard it must have been to live at that time. Hard by our standards, I guess they wouldn't have known any better.

Quite a face of the past. Yes, I remember the story quite well. I'd like to see that place.
