Mariä Himmelfahrt
In the churches that observe it, the Assumption is a major feast day, commonly celebrated on August 15. In many countries the feast is also marked as a Holy Day of Obligation.

Thanks for these nice local pictures of the day, Karl. I have "only" seen the Dormition/Assumption celebrated in Jerusalem. A blessed feast day to all who celebrate today, whether here or there.
I don't think I could ever get the hang of suspenders. :-)
Your post brings up many memories. My Mother felt it was an important day and it was observed reverently in our home. Haven't heard the term "holy day of obligation" for years. The procession must have been impressive.
Happy weekend Karl, however you celebrate it.
A great image, but for us it is mostly Ferragosto...
It's something that never got emphasized in protestant churches, so I'm only remotely familiar with the occasion. Terrific shots!
This one is new to me. Glad you introduced me to it.
I always liked the Holy days of Obligation since we got out of school if they fell on a school day. I haven't heard of them in years either.
Hier ist natürlich auch Assomption. Aber nichts so schönes...
There is a three dimensional look to your shot. Wonderful.
