An Advent calendar is a special calendar (in the normal A4 size or slightly larger) with only 24 windows, which is used to count or celebrate the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas from the 1st to the 24th of December.
The most Advent calendars are made for children and include in each window a little piece of chocolate, cookies or just nice pictures.
This here, located in the center of Bolzano, is "extra large" and displays every day another painting, until december 24th, when all windows will be opened.

November 30, 2011, all windows are closed...
December 5, 2011, five windows are open...

What a surprise!
Karl, you are becoming the mystery man.
Very original. I know they can be very original in Bolzano. Regularly I pass by and I allways like it.
I love this! A wonderful way to celebrate the holidays.
What a wonderful idea! I hope we'll get to see some that have the paintings behind as well. V
Now that is quite impressive!
This is exceptionally clever. Whoever owns that building sure has the holiday spirit!!!
How nice! Is this a public building, or simply a resident with a flair for holiday decorations?
This project makes me happy.
What a simple and beautiful idea.
Wonderful idea and tradition! I would pass this everyday just to see the new window opening :D
