Haymaking in Schnalstal

  1. Hard work on the slopes. Good that there are many hands.

I remember those long wooden rakes from when we made hay at the Swiss monastery. Nice memories.

  2. Looks like you need good leg muscles and good balance to harvest this hay.

  3. I like the way you captured the people on the ridge, set off against the distant mountain for a background.

  6. I find it amazing and touching that hay is mown the old fashioned way. Saw a similar scene in Grindlewald and it remains a favorite memory.

  8. I'll bet it's like everyplace else; you gotta make hay while the sun shines! What a sight. I've worked on the back end of a hay baler - not fun. This looks like hard work but more fun. Of course, I'd probably stumble and roll all the way down the mountain!

  11. I was engaged in harvesting hay on flat terrain, but I had no idea how this can be done in the mountains!

  14. As a city girl, I never knew people harvested hay by hand! Learned something new and enthralled by your images - love the contrast of the colors of the people, the grass, hay, etc. against the almost b&w mountains in the background - wonderful!
